When should you consider counselling?

You don't need to reach a breaking point. Here are some signs that talking to someone might help.
Many people wait until things feel unmanageable before reaching out. But counselling isn't only for crisis points. It can help much earlier — and often, earlier is easier.
Some signs it might help
- You've felt low, anxious or on edge for a few weeks or more
- Things that used to feel manageable now feel heavy
- You're sleeping, eating or connecting with people differently
- You keep finding yourself in the same patterns
- A change, loss or decision is taking up a lot of space in your mind
- You'd simply like to understand yourself better
None of these mean something is "wrong" with you. They're signals worth paying attention to.
What counselling offers
Counselling offers a confidential space with a trained professional who listens without judgement. Together, you can explore what's happening, what's contributing to it — including your circumstances, not just your feelings — and what might help.
Wellbeing shouldn't begin at crisis point
Just as we look after our physical health before something goes badly wrong, it's worth doing the same for our minds. Reaching out early isn't an overreaction. It's a sensible, caring thing to do for yourself.
If you need help right now
Counselling is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 112. For free 24/7 mental health support in India, call Tele-MANAS on 14416.
